![]() | I would recommend 5 Element Wing Chun to anyone. As an older woman and never done a martial art before, I was hesitant about joining but the friendly nature of the instructors makes it easy to work to your own ability. I now feel fitter, mentally stronger, more self aware and self confident. Particularly, for females I feel it is essential to be able to protect one self and not be intimidated by anyone, as well as being an excellent fitness program.![]() Date of Posting: 24 November 2011 Posted By: Penny Newman |
![]() | Having tried a few martial arts over a number of years I thought I had an idea of what to expect from 5th Element Wing Chun…Gosh was I wrong!5th Element Wing Chun is the most challenging martial art that I have ever done, not just physically but mentally too. Sifu Tom is a great, open-minded teacher, exceptionally patient and committed to the art that he has founded. The Chi Sao that Sifu has developed creates pure and simple focus, which is transferable to all situations. There isn't just one word that can describe its effectiveness. All the guys that I train with at Horsham are just lovely and like the other classes everyone helps each other and there is a great atmosphere. So if you are at a loose end one evening take advantage of the 30 day free trial and go along to your nearest class. You will be taught some incredible stuff, have fun and get fit at the same time, sounds to good to be true, if you are up for the challenge all is achievable. ![]() Date of Posting: 24 November 2011 Posted By: Karen Dempsey Financial Controller |
![]() | 5 Elements Wing Chun has made a huge difference to my life. I feel much fitter, stronger, more physically aware and confident. As a girl, and as I hadn’t done a martial art before, I wanted a class that would be challenging but also welcoming and supportive, which I found here. All the other students are lovely and there's a great social aspect to the school – we often go to the pub afterwards. The class is physically demanding, but if you like a challenge I'd recommend it whole heartedly to anyone.Warm wishes, Fran ![]() Date of Posting: 18 November 2011 Posted By: Fran Taylor |
![]() | I’ve done many fighting styles over the years, from boxing to traditional wing Chung, etc... and trained under many different instructors, therefore I can pick out a good instructor when I meet one, and Tom is definitely that , he has a friendly approach and has the natural ability to break down his fighting style so it’s easily digestible especially if you’re a beginner.5 Element wing Chung is a style which Tom is constantly evolving and organic which makes it a style you can’t get bored with, as there always something new and exciting to brings to the class. I would recommend this style to anyone who’s either and beginner wishing to improve fitness and looking for something that’s functional and direct, or anyone who wants something more challenging as we incorporate grabbling weapons and sparring techniques. ![]() Date of Posting: 15 November 2011 Posted By: Roger Greenidge IT |
![]() | The first thing that I would like to mention - this is not traditional Wing Chun style, highly adaptive, as Mike mentioned below. And believe me, that is awesome!I am training with Sifu Tomor for 3 years now and honestly this is the best experience I had so far. Many other martial arts are aiming at power and aggression, however, it is not always good to try to go through the wall if you know what I mean. Learning how to use opponent's power against himself is critical, because there is always someone bigger and stronger than you...yet you will be wiser. Power training and full gear sparring is available for anyone who is up for it. Also there are plenty of elbow, knee, ground fight and self-defence techniques available. Tomor has a unique approach to every student and he is really helpful and friendly, therefore those who are not ready to train full power could practice with similar level students. I personally had boosted my self-confidence big time and improved my physique a lot. Since I have started to train I have lost 20 kg and will never put on weight! Motivation which I absorb while I train stays with me during the week and I, therefore, train at home as well to keep that mood...you have to have healthy life style to stay healthy, don't you? I believe that everyone can reach everything in life and 5 Element Wing Chun will help to make this first step towards new you! P.S. None of us paid to advertise anything in here, everything we have said is from our own experience and best prove for that is to come and join us on 30 Day Free Trial! Can not find any excuse now, just grab your training clothes and come to see it and feel it yourself! Good luck to everyone! ![]() Date of Posting: 12 November 2011 Posted By: Jevgeni Always achieve your goals! ..do NOT forget to set ones! |
![]() | I thought I was fit before I started 5 Element Wing Chun, I was wrong but now, my fitness has really improved. Despite this the classes are set out so I can still push myself. I have never been in a fight, I have always managed to diffuse any situation I find myself in, but it is a wonderful feeling to have confidence that in the worst case scenario I have a much clearer idea of what to expect and how to respond.Sifu Tomor has spent a long time developing his system, which continues to evolve with time, and this really shows in our lessons. He explains clearly the concepts behind the actions, the reasons they work and, just as importantly, why something may not work. He is a friendly instructor, always happy to chat and will go out of his way to help you. I have invited a number of friends to come to a class with me, only one has accepted and loves it. The hardest part for people is getting over their fears. I am at the Monument class every Tuesday and Thursday, if you turn up but don't enjoy the class, you are welcome to blame me. ![]() Date of Posting: 11 November 2011 Posted By: Youcef Kadri MSc Student |
![]() | I never practised martial arts before but always wanted to try. My neighbour had some Wing Chung training and was looking for a school to continue his training. I was fascinated by what he learnt from sifu Tommor in 5 Element Wing Chun Academy and decided to try after finishing my studies in university. And it’s was great experience - much more fun than going to gym or watching martial art movies and dreaming to learn this craft one day. I’m not a fast learner however I had enough time to practise drills in class. It took time and effort to learn however as soon as you get basics it all start to make sense. It was amazing to discover how logic the system is. It’s being aware rather than being strong. It’s physics, geometry, psychology and philosophy combined together allowing to finish (and win) the fight as soon as efficient as possible. Once you learn drills well they become your instincts, then you don’t need to think what is going to be your next move – your body reacts much faster saving time which is crucial to success. It’s sort of a game – once you start you get addicted to progress. Main difference for Playstation – it’s real, you build your confidence, learn how to protect yourself and your family. Main difficulty – not to miss trainings due to laziness. But hey, nobody is perfect! :)) ![]() Date of Posting: 11 November 2011 Posted By: Aurelijus Tamutis Photographer |
![]() | 5 Element Wing Chun offers both an open and supportive teaching environment with a strong sense of achievement. The classes are encouraging and the teaching style always makes you wish to achieve more and get better at Wing Chun, without making you feel pressured or discouraged. Sifu creates a program which enables developing your individual understanding of how Wing Chun works. I feel that I am learning both physical self-defence skills and gaining in self-confidence![]() Date of Posting: 11 November 2011 Posted By: Luke Evans Ba(Hons) MA |
![]() | I have been studying Wing Chun at Monument now for over a year and a half and it has become an important part of my life. I have attended other schools before but have found this one by far the most enjoyable and rewarding. Sifu Tomor is an excellent instructor who is dedicated to his students and his classes are always exciting and engaging. The passion he has for the art really comes through in his teaching. The programme is very thoughtfully put together and what impressed me is how it takes into account peoples differences. The system adapts to the strengths and limitations of each person. It is also very relevant to modern times, the moves we learn are considered in terms of the threats we might face out on the streets today. I have met some great people through these classes- people from all sorts of martial arts backgrounds and first timers. We all learn from each other and everone is eager to help their fellow students improve. Also, St. Mary-at-Hill is a magnificent building to take in when working through those exercises and stretches. If you have done hard exercise you will know the sense of mental well being it achieves. The beauty of Tomor's classes is that the hard work is made enjoyable. I leave every class with renewed confidence and focus through disciplined physical training and improving my techniques. ![]() Date of Posting: 11 November 2011 Posted By: Chris Mackenzie Passport and Visa courier |
![]() | I had never studied any type of Martial Arts before. I remember my dad taking me to a judo class when I was a boy and me running away in terror! Last year a friend of mine who has been involved in martial arts all his life started learning wing chun, and convinced me to give it a try - I found Sifu Tom and have been really enjoying the last 18 months. He is a great teacher, the skills are fantastic and the 2 hour training sessions fly by so quickly. To anyone thinking of a new fitness regime or hobby (although it goes way deeper than that), check it out one evening - everyone is friendly and respectful, and I'm sure you won't be disappointed. Watch out for those killer yoga positions at the end! Hass![]() Date of Posting: 10 November 2011 Posted By: Hassan Johaadien Live and work in the City |
